Eat This, Not That Part 1

September 26, 2017

NUTRITION! The very basis of what we do and how we move. A plane won't fly without the proper fuel and your body doesn't work optimally without the same. There is a lot of information out there from many sources. It seems everyone knows what to eat and what not to eat. But nobody can seem to come to a consensus as to which is which.

Here's the bottom line...our food options and availability are often a result of clever marketing and chemical dependency. (sugar is the new tobacco) Luckily, I have sifted through all the information and have the answers for you!

What should I eat?

I am a simple person with a simple mind. So I am going to give you this information as simply as I can.

EAT MEATS, VEGETABLES, NUTS AND SEEDS, SOME FRUIT, LITTLE STARCH AND NO SUGAR.

And even simpler:

EAT REAL FOOD!!!

That’s it! That’s the secret! I will gladly collect the hundreds of dollars that you were thinking of spending on the next fad diet and quick fix pills.

Common Arguments

But Josh, that is so hard! I don’t have time to do that! It is difficult! What everyone wants today though is something easy and quick. They are looking for something that fits into their schedule, rather than adjusting their priorities to make their nutrition and their health the priority. If you don’t make it a priority, you won't be successful. If you don’t make work a priority, you likely won't advance or improve in your field. If you don’t make family a priority, it will likely suffer as well. If you don’t make your health a priority, you can expect to spend a lot of time and money at doctor’s offices down the road. That time and money in those places is less time and money that you can spend with the ones you love.

But Josh, how could something so simple work so well? As we have “evolved” so have the processes that we treat our food with. Now the food we eat is so full of sugar, hormones, antibiotics and fillers that it is ruining our own hormones. With our hormones out of whack, our body starts to store fat, change body composition, make you less energetic, sleep poorly, and start down the road to chronic diseases. When you eat REAL FOOD, your hormones become more level and you can have a more normal body composition, decreased inflammation, better sleep patterns, more energy and less PAIN.

The last argument I hear against eating real food is a fun one…. But Josh, it is so expensive to eat real food! Now, this does seem to be true. It is more expensive than the antibiotic and hormone filled food that floods our supermarkets now. It is much more expensive than the twinkies and fast food that our society readily embraces. BUT, it is not more expensive than the medications that you will be forced to take in the future when your cardiovascular disease elevates your blood pressure. It is not more expensive than the diet pills that you are considering. It is not more expensive than the fast food restaurants that you stop in. So really, expense is just relative. Besides, if I told you that you could pay money to look a certain way (better, in your mind), feel a certain way (again, better), perform a certain way (can you guess?... better) and sleep a certain way (better again), wouldn’t you do it? That is the suggestion that I am making for you.

We'll discuss what I mean by "real food" in part 2...
