How to Avoid Disease-Stay Fit

We live in a very strange time.

Our world is obsessed with health and prevention and avoidance of disease. We want to avoid SARS-CoV2 (coronavirus), cancer, and Alzheimer's to name a few, but there are many more.

We are all looking for the "magic pill" to set our world back in order and have less fear about this particular part of life.

While not ALL diseases can be avoided, I want to talk about the best ways to stay healthy and avoid nearly ANY disease.

The first way to do this is to stay fit! This means dedicating a portion of nearly every day to your fitness! What you do is irrelevant, but you should do something that makes you happy, helps you to have fun and puts you in a social environment with others that share the same interest as you! I choose CrossFit and you can read about why here!

However, there are other options that are out there that can help you as well...running, spin classes and bootcamps are a few examples. But nearly anything will work if it gets your heart rate up and makes your muscles burn!

Exercise improves your immune system by improving your blood flow, reducing stress levels and helping your antibodies to become stronger! All of these things will help you to avoid not just acute illnesses like the coronavirus and flu, but also chronic illnesses like some cancers, Alzheimer's and diabetes!

Want to help yourself? Here is how:

  • Commit yourself to exercising 3-5 days per week

  • Your exercise should challenge your muscles (make them feel a burn) and make you breathe hard and sweat (even in the cold)

  • Your exercise should be performed with others! Enjoy their company and have fun! (More on this later in this series)

Work to implement these new habits into your life and see how much better you feel, but also how much less often you get sick!
