Movements You Should Be Doing: Burpees

Every week, I work to give you ACTIONABLE advice that you can implement and be successful in your health and fitness journey.
This week, I am hoping to help you to incorporate movements that can make you more successful in your workouts!
Today, I want to talk about the Burpee... (cue scary music...duh duh duuuunnnnn)
This movement has long been the bane of fitness journeys around the world! The likelihood of someone hating the burpee is significantly higher than someone liking the burpee. However, as hated as the movement is, it can be an amazing addition to your workout for a multitude of reasons!
For those of you that do not know, the burpee is performed like this...
The movement begins as you lower yourself to the ground and lay with your chest and thighs on the ground and your hands under your shoulders. After this, you push yourself up with your arms as you move your feet under you to stand. Some versions of burpees include a jump or a hop over an object.
Now, why on Earth would you want to perform such a movement? Especially when you know the discomfort that may be waiting for you as you perform more of them or move faster with them?
Quite simply, the burpee incorporates almost every major muscle group in your body! It is like working all of the muscles in your body at the same time! However, this is what also makes them so devastating in workouts!
Burpees help to make the "pushing" muscles in your arms stronger and help to give them more endurance. Additionally, this movement can help you with the muscles in your legs and back, called your posterior chain. These muscles are huge muscles in your body and help to burn a lot of energy when you use them correctly! Finally, burpees tax your cardiovascular system and help to improve your stamina. Two things that are crucial to improving your overall fitness level!
While I know that this movement is hated by many, it is also a movement that could be the key to unlocking some of the goals that you may have!
So, think about incorporating this fantastic, full body movement into your workouts! When it is all said and done, I think you will be happy that you did and feel stronger than ever!
