What to Look For in a Gym: Goal Setting
Starting at a gym is a decision that is taken lightly by many people in our culture today. With all of the problems with obesity and chronic disease that plagues our society, it is something that we should take more seriously!
This means that finding a place to help you to accomplish your goals should be the foremost concern, not just finding the cheapest or most convenient place, but the one that will serve you most!
In previous posts, we talked about the welcome that you receive when you walk into a gym being a sign of how well that gym may serve you in your goals. Today, we are talking about how well your potential gym gets to know you and your goals.
The bottom line is that there are MANY different types of goals that can be met in a gym! Some people are looking to lose weight, some are looking to improve their strength, some are looking to combat their chronic disease, and some are looking to compete in sports or other competitive endeavors better! Without knowing what your goals are, how is a gym going to lead you to success?!
Ultimately, it would be best if you were able to have a conversation with someone in the gym that can listen to your goals and then make recommendations to help you to accomplish them! But if a gym is not having these conversations with you, how will they help you?!? What is best for you? Personal training? Working out in a group? How often should you go? What should you do while you are there?
As you look for a gym, these are some of the things that you should consider in finding the right fitness home. Your goals are important and having a gym that knows them and how to help you to reach them is an important feature in any facility that you are involved with!
